

Nancy Jean (Bartlett) Miller, 81, passed away peacefully at 8:50am on on November 17, 2015 at the Kaplan House Hospice in Danvers, Massachusetts. Nancy was born in Marblehead on December 29, 1933 and graduated from Marblehead High School in 1951. She received her Bachelor degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of New Hampshire in 1955.
Nancy married the late John Douglas Miller in 1956 in Unitarian Church in Marblehead. She moved with her husband to Ann Arbor, MI, where both performed their clinical affiliations in Occupational Therapy at the University of Michigan Hospital. After the birth of two sons, they moved to Peterborough, NH where she had one more son, briefly relocated to Mount Gretna, PA, and then resumed her career at the Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center in Greenfield, NH, specializing in occupational therapy for disabled children. Nancy was divorced in 1979 and moved to Belchertown, MA where she worked as an OT with the State of Massachusetts at Belchertown and Northampton until her retirement. In 2010, she returned to her home and family, settling in Swampscott, MA.
Nancy was a gentle and easy-going person who always put the needs of her husband, children and other people first. When she wasn't working with disabled children, she was volunteering at the Mary Lane Hospital (Ware MA) and adopting rescued cats. She enjoyed summer and holiday trips to Marblehead and keeping family traditions. Nancy was the artist in the family often working on crafts or pottery. Later in life she enjoyed attending hot air balloon meets and the occasional balloon ride. Nancy was raised in the Congregational and Unitarian churches in Marblehead and attended the Episcopal Church in Peterborough before joining the Church of Christ (Springfield MA). Fellowship and friends in the church were an important part of her adult life.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Frank B. Bartlett and Ruth Batchelder and the stepmother who raised her from age 4, Sarah Allen (Little Compton, RI); and by her eldest brother, Walter Bartlett. She is survived by her remaining brother, Sumner Bartlett (Margareta) of Marblehead, her children, David, Michael and Bruce Miller. Also, her grandchildren, Jason, Amanda, Jeffrey and Amy Miller. Also, her great grandchildren, Sebastian, Olivia and Nathaniel Miller. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held in the Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm Street, Marblehead on Saturday, November 28 at 1PM. All are welcome. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home or a donation to St Jude Children's Hospitals in her name.
