

Richard James Heaphy, 60, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on March 16, 2012. A true Marbleheader, Dick graduated from Marblehead High School where he was a star athlete; he attended and played football at the University of Maine Orono. He graduated from Salem State College and earned his Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from Ana Maria College in 1981. His career spanned 32 years with the Essex County Superior Court and he retired as the Assistant Chief Probation Officer in 2010. He was active in Marblehead sports while his sons were growing up, and served on several committees in town. Dick enjoyed exercising (especially spinning), boating, camping, and family vacations in Siesta Key. He cherished his recent trip to Ireland with his sons, Brian and Danny.
Dick is survived by his friend and former wife, Sharon Zembrow Heaphy, his loving and devoted sons, Brian and Daniel Heaphy, his friend and partner Joyce Colahan, his dear mother, Alice Heaphy, and loving sisters Kathleen (Vincent) Monaco and Pam Willard. Dick was predeceased by his best friend and father, Jim Heaphy, and brother-in-law Jon Willard. He will be missed by Beverly and Jeffrey Wain, Carole and Mark Kaitz, his eight beautiful nieces, and nine great nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4-8 PM in the Eustis & Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm Street, Marblehead. A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Donations in Dick’s memory may be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty Street, Danvers, MA 01923.
