Susie Gangi Butler
31 July, 1936 – 6 February, 2021
Susie G. Butler, 84, of Marblehead, MA died on February 6, 2021 of natural causes in her sleep. Susie was born on July 31, 1936, in Boston, MA to Ethel Louise and Charlie Gangi. She grew up in Waltham, MA, and graduated from Waltham High School in 1955. She moved to Marblehead, MA in 1958 after marrying her husband Wayne T. Butler. They raised three children in Marblehead and Susie worked for the Marblehead Council on Aging for 17 years. She was passionate about her work and established many deep friendships and relationships during this time. When she retired from the town in 1993, her love of helping others continued through her own transportation business driving people to the airport, local appointments and even grocery shopping. Susie was an avid bridge player and played at many local and national tournaments. One of her proudest moments was when she earned a Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League. She also loved to travel and explore. Whether she was with friends attending an out-of-town bridge tournament or traveling with her husband and family to destinations in Europe, a trip down the Danube River through Vienna and Budapest, or the Holy Lands of Israel and Egypt, Susie lived life with zeal and passion. In her later years, she cherished spending time with her grandchildren and watching them grow into young adults. Susie was a long-time member of the Old North Church in Marblehead, MA, and will be warmly remembered for her vibrant personality, creativity and willingness to help others less fortunate than herself. Susie is survived by her husband of 63 years, Wayne Butler; her three beloved children, Sandra Butler (Patrick Michael Dethridge) of Marblehead, MA; Robert Butler (Deede) of Wylie, TX; and Charles Butler of Marblehead, MA; two grandchildren, Foster and Madisyn Butler of Wylie, TX; her dear sister Geneva Clifford of Hooksett, NH; two brothers, Louie Gangi of Newton, MA and James Gangi of Waltham, MA; her niece Melissa Bonenberg (Corey) of Tracy, CA and nephew Joshua Butler of Andover, MA who were like grandchildren to her, and many close family and friends who will miss her dearly. The family plans to hold a celebration of her life in the summer of 2021. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Greater Boston Food Bank, 70 South Bay Avenue, Boston, MA 02118.

My sincere condolences to the family of Susie.
I knew Susie from duplicate bridge on Westshore Drive in
Marblehead. She was always the kindest, most caring
person, and also an excellent bridge player.

Our deepest sympathies to the Butler family. Susie was a good friend and always willing to get into trouble with me. We had some wonderful memories at the bridge tournaments and our social bridge lunches every Wednesday. I am going to miss her a lot. May she rest in peace.

Susie and I talked distantly outside in the summer and in the fall. She was a wonderful, caring person. Everyone liked her. I know this will be a big loss to the family, but she will never be forgotten.
