Dennis Cecil “Dennie” Edgington, born on February 3, 1957 to Cecil and Evelyn Edgington passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2021 after collapsing from a massive heart attack. Dennie was a truck driver for over 40 years and worked various construction sites over the years, lastly being Meade Construction for 20 years. Dennie loved the country life. He purchased a beautiful piece of property with a farmhouse on 22 acres to raise his family on.....and when he wasn't working long hours in his truck, he would work on his house or visit friends and family. Dennie was a family oriented man at heart and would often give the shirt off his back for anyone. He was seen by many as a humble man, he was very kind, generous, compassionate and willing to help anyone in need. Everyone loved him and many spoke of him highly.
Dennie had a passion for hot rods like most of the guys he knew, he could spend hours talking with his brothers or friends about fast cars and old times. He became a member of the “Old GearHeads” and went to the car reunion event every year where he could see all the cars, many of his friends, old and new and share camaraderie. He planned ahead every year so he could join his brothers and several buddies who go to the swap meets where during his hours of walking around he always found big mint chocolate chip ice cream bars....one of his little pleasures. On holidays you'd never see him walk through your door without pies and of course, peanut M&M’s! Dennie loved to draw, mainly cars, but if he had a project
to do for himself, or even one for someone else, he wanted it to be precise. So, he would draw up a diagram to make sure there were no mistakes about what he had in mind. And he'd often repeat himself twice to make sure you heard him. I'd say maybe, he was a smidge OCD. 😂 When Covid hit he drew and designed a T-shirt idea that had to do with Racing.
Dennie, was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Pamela Smith, his great niece Breanna Smith and great nephew Jordan Campbell. Dennie leaves behind his two children, Brittany and Colin; his two older brothers, Richard (Barbara) Edgington and Dave (Debbie) Edgington. He is also survived by 4 nephews, Paul, Philip, Jeremy (MiJin), and Davey; as well as 3 nieces, Patti, Kellie (Chris) Cammie. He leaves behind 9 great-nephews and nieces and 8 great-great nephews and nieces.
The family has arranged a Memorial Gathering on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at The American Legion, 1101 W Algonquin Rd, Lake in the Hills, IL 60156 from 3pm-7pm. Please come and Celebrate his Life with them.
