

Frank C. Nickels, age 94, of Marengo, Illinois passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024. Frank was born on April 16, 1930 in Belvidere, IL. He was the son of Edward and Anna (Engelbart) Nickels. In 1948, Frank graduated from Marengo Community High School. Frank proudly served in the Army and Airborne Rangers, 1st Company, and received the Purple Heart in combat during the Korean War. He married Beatrice Tessendorf on June 8, 1957, they spent 63 loving years together. Frank worked as a machinist and carpenter. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, going to garage sales, and collected diecast model cars and coin banks. He was a member of the American Legion for over 70 years and the VFW. Frank was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Marengo.
Frank is survived by his daughter, Beth (Michael) Nickels-Wisdom and son, Thomas (Kathy) Nickels; grandchildren, Michael (Brooke Heaslip) Nickels, and Kelly (Steve) Schmuggerow, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bea; parents, Edward and Anna; siblings, Laurinda (Laurence) Ettner, Ray (Adeline) Nickels, Elna (Al) Crews, Eileen (Woodrow) Royalty, Bernice Nickels, Bill Nickels and Edwin Nickels.
Visitation from 9am until time of Service at 11am at Zion Lutheran Church on Monday, December 2, 2024. Interment to follow at Marengo City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: Zion Lutheran Church, 412 Jackson St., Marengo, IL 60152. The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at Florence Nursing Home and Heartland Hospice for their excellent care.
