He was born November 22, 1943, in Chicago to Paul and Sadie (Purcell) Cierny. On October 27, 1966, he married Christine Harsla in Chicago.
He served in the United States Army in Korea during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Christine; his son, James (Pam) Cierny; his granddaughter, Brooke Cierny; his mother-in-law, Dorothy (the late James) Devitt; his sister-in-law, Darlene Hollen; his brother-in-law, Russell (Nancy) Harsla; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6pm on Sunday, January 2, 2011, at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. A Eulogy service will be at 6pm.
Interment will be private.
