Norma J. Kanaly,85, passed away on April 5, 2021 at Northwestern Hospital in McHenry. She was born on July 8, 1935 to Violet (Devereaux) and Harold Shugart in Nevada City, California. She married the love of her life Edward Kanaly on September 12, 1956 in Marengo. They were married 42 years.
She was a US Army Veteran PFC stationed at Fort Knox and Fort Dix and was honorably discharged in 1957.
She worked at Arnold Engineering Co. for 32 years from August 1966 until her retirement in February of 1999.
She loved sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, and reading but mostly loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Keith (Julie) Kanaly, Brian (Geraldine) Kanaly, Kevin (Cyndi) Kanaly, Beth (Leslie) Kanaly, Jodie (Laura) Kanaly, and Scot (Bianca) Kanaly; 8 grandchildren, Matthew (Hannah), Lindsey (Mike), Kelli (Barung), Kimberly (Joseph), Darby, Tyler, Devin, and Camden; 8 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Emma, Dylan, Madison, Kamden, Isabelle, Samuel, and Owen; a brother, John Shugart and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward in 1998, her parents, and her siblings Richard,Kenneth and Susan.
Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Zion Lutheran Church.
Visitation at Zion Lutheran Church 412 Jackson Street, Marengo on Thursday, April 8, 2021 from 5-8pm, Service and Interment are private.
