Shirley Mae Wilcox, 81, of Marengo, Illinois, passed away on February 24, 2026. A loving and funny presence in the lives of those who knew her, Shirley will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection.
Born on March 24, 1944, in Belvidere, Shirley was the daughter of David and Margaret Wilcox and was a lifetime Marengo resident.
Shirley’s interests reflected the simple joys she cherished most. She loved Elvis, animals—especially dogs—and spent many hours crocheting. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and word searches, watching westerns, and in her younger years, she also enjoyed bowling. She especially looked forward to countless family reunions, where laughter was often paired with spirited arguments over who was doing the dishes.
Shirley's family extends heartfelt gratitude to Florence Nursing Home for their exceptional care of her over the years, as well as JourneyCare Hospice for bringing her peacefully through her final days.
Shirley will be missed by her sister, Lucille "Murph" Wilcox; her nephew Corey (Christina) Bonk and his children, Lucas, Logan, Landon, and Lily; her niece Tammy Schultz and Tim Schultz, and their daughter Paige; her uncle Dale Fox; her special friends, Nancy Griebel, and Bob & Corinne Fish; and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Barbara Wilcox and Kathleen Bonk; and many additional aunts and uncles; as well as by her beloved dog, Carla.
Visitation will be held at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 East Grant Highway, Marengo, IL 60152, on March 3, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 am. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Shirley's honor to Florence Nursing Home and the Alzheimer's Association.
