peacefully in her Margate, Fla home on July 9, 2021.
“Jean” was the wife of 64 years to the late Lewis Watson. Jean was born on Nov. 2, 1933.
in Butler, Ga , daughter of the late Ruth Turk of Butler, Ga and the late Fred Reed of
Satellite Beach, Fla. She is survived by daughters Linda Keiths DeAmorim of Plantation,
Fl, Sandra Cooper of Hagerstown, Md and Jennifer Watson of Boston, Ma., sister Janet
McCants of Butler, Ga and granddaughter Laura Cooper of Chevy Chase, Md.
Jean was an accomplished musician. She began playing piano at the age of 5 years and by the age of 10, she was playing weekly at the local Methodist Church in Butler, Ga. She later attended Music School at Shorter College in Rome, Ga where she studied classical piano and then on to the Univ. Of Ga. in Athens , Ga.
She met her sweetheart, Lewis, who she later married, while working a summer job at Warner Robbins, Ga Air Force Base, where he was a young lieutenant. After marrying, they soon moved to Christianburg, Va where he attended Va Tech and then later to Gainesville, Fl where Lewis completed his graduate work at Univ of Fla. Jean taught piano during these “ college years”.
The couple moved to Ft Lauderdale, Fl in 1952 and in later years raised their three daughters there. During the 1960’s and 70’s, Jean worked as a church organist at various churches throughout Broward County.
After retiring to their Margate home in 1982, Jean & Lew traveled extensively across 49 states of the US, especially enjoying the National Parks. They were quite active in their homeownwer’s association in their Margate Paradise Gardens community and Jean often shared her musical talents as a piano accompanist with her neighbors at various special events.
Though Jean enjoyed playing all types of music, from show tunes to the modern pop hits of today, her great passion was to play Christian Worship Music. In her aging years, Jean lost her vision to advanced Macular Degeneration but she was still enjoyed playing her keyboards daily. When asked how she wanted to be remembered, she responded that “ She wanted to remembered that she worshipped God through her music” And She did!
Her music will play on in our Hearts forever & ever.....
Jean was interned on July15, 2021 at the South Fla. National Cemetery in Lake Worth,
Fla. She will be laid to rest alongside her beloved Lewis.
The family would like to thank the Vitas Hospice Team for their loving, compassionate care to Mrs. Watson over the last seven months.
In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation to the Bright Focus Foundation for Macular Degeneration Research.
