Carmen Rodriguez

Carmen Rodriguez was born on May 10, 1934, in Camajuaní, Cuba, and her journey of 90 years came to a peaceful end on January 31, 2025, in Coral Springs, Florida. Carmen was the eldest of six siblings, a role that imbued her with maturity and wisdom from an early age. In a home that reverberated with the vibrancy of family life, she developed a profound sense of responsibility and care that would come to define her character.

Carmen graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, a feat she achieved through unwavering determination and intellect, traveling long distances and living alone. She embarked on a career that began humbly at the sugar refineries in Cuba—a foundation that eventually led her to Domino Sugar in Brooklyn, New York. Over her distinguished 30-year career at Domino Sugar, Carmen's dedication not only advanced her professional life but also inspired those who worked alongside her. She was known for her sharp mind and practical wisdom, attributes that she generously shared with her loved ones.

Carmen's personal life was marked by an enduring partnership with her devoted husband, Oscar “Moran” Rodriguez. Their marriage, which spanned over half a century, was a testament to shared dreams and mutual respect. Although Carmen and Moran did not have children of their own, they embraced their roles as aunt and uncle with love and enthusiasm, enriching the lives of their nieces and nephews, and their children. Carmen had an innate ability to bring direction and organization to whatever she did, a reflection of the meticulous care she took in everything she did.

Sadly, Carmen was preceded in death by her husband, Moran, her parents, Maria D. Gonzalez and Juan Gabriel Fanego, her sisters Maria Amparo Rojas and Josefina Jorgelina Castillo, and her brother Lazaro Mario Fanego. She is survived by her sisters, Gladys B. Cardenas and Susana Fanego, and two generations of adoring nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will gather to celebrate Carmen's life on Thursday, February 6, 2025. It will be a time to honor a life well-lived and to remember a remarkable woman who enriched the lives of her friends and family with her wisdom, kindness, and unwavering dedication.
