He was the Proud "Pops" of his 12 grandchildren: Kelley, Colleen & Caroline Powers, Brian, Sean and T.J. Grealy Jr., Dennis & Kevin Graiani, Patrick & Bridget Murphy, Patrick & Christopher Butler. He also has 2 sisters who survive him, Johanna & Sr. Catherine Powers, CND. Mickey worked for Bankers Trust in NYC until his retirement in 1993 and continued his part-time employment as an usher for both Shea Stadium and Madison Square Garden until age 70. Mickey was a member of the US Air Force. Additionally, he was a loyal parishioner of both St Frances de Chantal Catholic Church in the Bronx until 2007, and then St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Coral Springs, FL. He made many sacrifices to insure his family was well provided for.
Mickey was an avid New York sports fan. He particularly enjoyed NY Rangers hockey, as well as Yankees and Mets baseball. Mickey loved the old time Yankees and could spend hours providing old stories of his youth in the Bronx and his time in the US military service in Columbus, OH, sharing his connection to Ohio State University. He also loved Big 10 football and the “Fighting Irish” of Notre Dame.
Mickey and Kathleen both retired to Margate, Florida in 2004 in their wonderful community of Oriole Gardens III in Margate, FL.. They enjoyed the company of Kathleen’s sisters, brothers, their devoted spouses and their extended friends they knew and loved in the Bronx. We are all so blessed to have known and been in his company.
