Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Russell “Red” and Sadie Hoover of Pompano Beach, FL, and one son, Russell Hoover III of Lynchburg, VA. He is survived by his daughter, Rachel (Duane) Shumaker, and daughter-in-law, Kristina Hoover; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Andrew & Billy Shumaker, and Madison & Molly Hoover, all of Lynchburg, VA and two sisters, Nann Tyson of Tamarac, FL and Monica (Chuck) DiFalco of Coral Springs, FL and a niece & nephew.
He grew up in Pompano Beach, FL and graduated from Pompano Beach High School. He was employed as a tug boat captain and worked in marine construction in south Florida. Russell loved fishing, kayaking, surfing and sailing with his wish of one day having his final resting place in Kuai, HI, therefore a private service will be performed in Hawaii.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, a charity that was close to his heart.
