Eleanor Jo Faucett, was born on August 24, 1930 to William Roy Faucett and Maude Suddeth Faucett in Ranger, Georgia; thirty miles outside of her hometown of Dalton, where she spent her childhood years.
Jo, as we all knew her best, grew up during the Great Depression and told countless stories of making cornbread, gathering pears from a neighbor’s tree, putting out food and coffee for the men that rode the trains, doing chores around their homeplace and working as a teenager at the Wink Theater. Jo graduated from Dalton High School in 1947 before moving to Atlanta.
Jo married James Riddick Hunter, of Chester, SC, a graduate of Clemson University and noted Atlanta architect. They settled in the Collier Hills neighborhood of Atlanta and Jo worked for many years at The Hartford Insurance Company until the birth of their only child and precious daughter, Caroline Ann. They raised Caroline together until Jim’s death in 1978. Jo eventually returned to The Hartford after Caroline graduated high school and remained there until her retirement.
Jim and Jo became members of Northside Drive Baptist Church and were faithful members. Jo enjoyed many pastimes including involvement with the Lovett Mother’s Club, the Collier Hills Garden Club, the Northside Drive Lay Group and Pacemaker’s Club in Vinings. She loved to cook, loved working in her yard & thoroughly loved to entertain. A resident of Smyrna, Georgia for more than twenty years, Jo’s beloved Atlanta Braves provided years of trials and loss until finally granting her wish of a world championship.
Jo peacefully passed away in the early morning of Friday, January 10, 2025. She had been in hospice care for several weeks following a hospitalization in November after suffering a major heart attack. She was 94. Her gracious soul ascended into Heaven just as the snow began to fall on her beloved Atlanta.
Jo was preceded into Heaven by her loving husband Jim, mother Maude Suddeth Faucett and father Roy Faucett, siblings Robert Earl Faucett, Vivian Ann Faucett Henry, William Edward Fauscett, Martha Lynn Faucett and Travis D Faucett. She is survived by her daughter Caroline Hunter Sisk and son-in-law John, a sister-in-law Diane Fauscett and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service for family will be held at Kennesaw Memorial Gardens in Marietta on Friday, January 24 at 11 AM. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 1:30 PM on Friday, January 24 at Northside Drive Baptist Church, 3100 Northside Drive, NE, Atlanta, GA 30327. Reception to follow in the Church Fellowship Hall.
