The second of three boys born to Clinton Moye Price and Josephine Hobgood, Jack was full of life and spunk from an early age. Soon following his graduation from high school he went into the Navy (Fireman First Class) where he served in Grandell Island, Greenland at the end of WWII. After serving he joined his mother in Rome, Georgia where he worked at Batty State Hospital as a mechanic. There, he met the love of his life, Thelma Davis. The two married on October 14, 1950 and moved to Atlanta. Jack was employed at Gordy Tire Company, and eventually made his way into the aircraft tire business. Jack had a long career at Air Treads as Sr. Vice President Sales, where he built the company from the ground up, securing several patents for the aircraft industry and later retiring in 1994.
Jack and Thelma had three daughters and were active in their church. Jack, a deacon at Locust Grove Baptist Church in Smyrna, was often sharing stories and making people smile. As staples of the church, the loss of Jack’s wife in 1976 was far reaching. Though he parted ways with organized religion, Jack remained committed to his faith in Jesus Christ that carried him through hard seasons of his life.
Throughout his life, Jack traveled and loved adventure. From his time in the Navy to travel for work with Air Treads, as well as family vacations and excursions with friends out west and to Panama - he had some amazing adventures and he loved to share about them with anyone who would listen. As an avid golfer into his 90’s, Jack had friends from many stages of life who will miss his positive attitude and penchant for story telling. In addition to golf, tinkering around his house (and houseboat in decades past) Jack enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and even had a short (but successful) time as a square dancer.
Often seen as the life of the party, Jack had a knack for telling stories and easily making friends with anyone he met. As a principled man with a very hard work ethic, Jack was proud that he was able to keep his mind and wits sharp until his final days on this earth.
Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Thelma; parents, Clinton and Josephine Price; brothers, “Dock” and Billy; and countless close friends. He is survived by his daughters, Linda (Robert) Hawlick, Kathy (Robert) Hobbs, and Donna (Michael) Robinson; as well as his grandchildren, Melissa, Ronald, Sarah, Christopher and Zac; and also great-grandchildren, Clay, Cali, Casey, Adiah, Charli, Gabe and Emerson.
