

Mark Allen Werner, age 63, passed away on October 10, 2025, after a lengthy illness. Mark was born on October 8, 1962, to Jane and Bernard Werner of Marietta, Georgia. He graduated from Westminster High School in Atlanta and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. Following graduation, Mark joined BellSouth Services in Atlanta, where he enjoyed a successful career as a computer engineer. During his time managing special projects in Shanghai, China, for BellSouth, Mark became fluent in Mandarin. Mark and his life partner, Shelly Hughes, traveled extensively and deeply enjoyed experiencing other cultures. As a pet therapy handler, Mark brought his therapy dog to local hospitals, offering comfort and support to those in need. A skilled marksman, Mark was certified as an NRA instructor. His greatest joy, however, was spending time at his farm in Ellijay, riding his tractor and cultivating the land he loved. He had a deep appreciation for nature and the outdoors. Mark had a kind and tender heart. He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Werner. He is survived by his devoted partner, Shelly Hughes; his mother, Jane Davis Werner; his brother, Anthony Joseph Werner; and his nieces, Austen Irene Werner and Camren Werner Bianco. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Historic Marietta Chapel. A visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. The family will attend a private graveside service following the ceremony. Flowers are appreciated.
