We are deeply saddened by the passing of Mary Jane Corbett-Brooks. Born on September 21, 1928, in Currie, North Carolina.
She was the daughter of Liston Corbett and Annie Smith. Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Brooks Sr. and her son, Ronald Eugene Brooks.
Mary Jane became a military wife when she married the love of her life, Alton on March 4, 1950. They had a love that was in a league of its own and remained married until his passing on September 11, 2016, after 66 years of marriage.
Mary was educated in the North Carolina education system. She also completed training as a Practical Nurse and was employed at various nursing facilities as well as the Baltimore City Public Schools systems.
She found great joy in her ministry and was always willing to help someone in need. She always demanded that there be peace and love with one another among family members especially because tomorrow wasn’t promised. Her loving nature and forgiving heart were well known as well as her comical nature and love for family. There is simply not enough paper and words to explain how much she was loved and the good she possessed in her.
She is survived by four daughters: Elaine Brooks, Audrey (Ralph) Gentry, Lorrell (Joseph Sr.) Willis, and Sharnett Brooks, one son; Alton F. Brooks Jr., one sibling; Gladys Williams from New Jersey, 10 grandchildren; Gary, Latonia (aka Tonia), Amanda, Ronald, Gorden, Natassia, Melkia, Denetric, and Joseph Jr. (aka Joey), 11 great-grandchildren; (Tonia’s) Derrick Jr. and Payton, (Amanda’s) Amyra and Kyran, (Natassia’s) Jionni and Javion, (Joey’s) Joenais, and (Denetric’s) Jaiden, Khaliea, Zaire and Denedric Jr., as well as many nieces nephews, cousins, and friends whom she loved.
Mary Jane’s funeral will be held at Southern Cremations and Funerals at Cheatham Hill 1861 Dallas Highway SW Marietta, GA 30064 on Monday, August 21, 2023, at 12:00 PM. Following Ms. Mary’s service, she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Alton, at Kennesaw Memorial Park 1306 Whitlock Ave SW Marietta, GA 30064.
