

Samuel Adams Storey, Sr. of Marietta died Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Tranquility Hospice following a decade’s long battle with heart disease. He died as he lived surrounded by the love and care of his wife, Carolyn, his family and his many friends.
He was a member of the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church from his ordination in 1969 until his death. Reverend Storey’s career began as Youth Minister at Commerce First United Methodist Church and then Associate Youth Minister for the North Georgia Conference. Subsequently he served Friendship and Ebenezer United Methodist Church and in 1969 came to Marietta First United Methodist as Youth Minister. He served as pastor of Clayton First United Methodist, Mountain Park United Methodist, and Gainesville First United Methodist Church. He returned to Marietta First as Associate Minister in 1990, serving until his health forced him to take medical disability in 2007.
The Reverend Storey was born February 4, 1943, in Thomaston, Georgia to Elizabeth Adams and Harrison Storey. He attended the Thomaston public schools, graduating from Robert E. Lee Institute in 1961. He grew up attending the First Methodist Church of Thomaston and was called to the ministry as a teenager. From that time and for the remainder of his life he devoted himself to the church and to God. The church was his profession, his calling, his hobby, his obsession and his passion. Anyone who knew him could feel the intensity of his faith and commitment to God.
He attended Young Harris College in Young Harris, Georgia and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1966. He was a graduate of Emory School of Theology.
He married Carolyn Bolton of Commerce on June 23, 1968. She was his steadfast partner for more than 48 years. He is survived by his wife, his son Samuel A. Storey, Jr. (Kristi) and daughter Elizabeth (Betsy) Storey Kelley (Robert) and five grandchildren: Ellie Storey, Harber Storey and Frances Storey, Mary Margaret Kelley and Elizabeth Kelley all of Marietta. Other survivors include a sister Susan Thompson (Wayne) and their children Elizabeth and Catherine. A sister-in-law, Billie Bolton and brother-in-law Doug Bolton (Suellyn). Numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service will take place 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Marietta First United Methodist Church. Interment will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta.
Family will receive friends 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday at Marietta First United Methodist Church Sanctuary.
