Sarah Townsend Polk

June 15, 1938 – May 27, 2012

Sarah Townsend Polk of Marietta went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 27, 2012. Funeral Services will be Thursday May 31, 2012 at 11:00am at Shiloh Hills Baptist Church with Dr. Vic Bledsoe officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 10 until 11am. Interment will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park. Mrs. Polk was a native of Marietta and graduated from Marietta High School and Emory School of Dentistry. She worked as a chair-side Dental Assistant for many years before moving to office management and then retiring. She was a long and very faithful member of Shiloh Hills Baptist Church. For 29 years, Mrs. Polk, with her husband, ran the Youth Intramural Basketball Outreach program for Shiloh Hills Baptist Church and Harvest Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luke T. and Christine Townsend, Sr., and brothers Tate, Jr., Carter and Tim Townsend. She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Gerry Polk; daughter, Christi Polk of Woodstock; son, Joey (Stephanie) Polk of Woodstock; Grand Daughters, Emery, Ellie and Hadleigh and nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4-8pm at Marietta Funeral Home, 915 Piedmont Road, Marietta, GA 30066.
