It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Anne Victoria (Vicki) DeShazo on June 11, 2024. Vicki was born in Spencer, Va. to the late G. Elmo DeShazo and Eliza Lester DeShazo on November 17, 1950. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved cocker spaniel Hudson.
She attended Drewry Mason High School and graduated from Martinsville High School in 1969. In elementary school, Vicki won many talent shows dancing the Charleston. While in High School, Vicki was a Junior Varsity Cheerleader, a baton twirler with Patti Mays’ Scarlettes, a member of the Thespians, and sang backup with the local band, The Generals. Her true love was teaching dance for the Ray Hollinsworth School of Dance.
Vicki graduated from Northwestern University. After graduation, she returned to Henry County and was employed as a receptionist for Virginia Mirror Co. before moving to Washington, DC and starting her professional career with “CBS News” as a special assistant to Correspondents. This led to the position of Associate Producer for Panorama at WTTG-TV in Washington. Vicki then moved to New York City as a writer and Associate Producer for “Good Morning America”. She continued to write and produce for “20/20”. “Geraldo”, “The Maury Povich Show” and “The Montel Williams Show”. After this very successful career, she returned to Spencer to care for her mother.
Always humble about her profession, she delighted in treating her friends and family to special seating at Broadway plays, at sporting events, and in the audience of TV shows.
Vicki is survived by her sister, Maxine D. Sherrill; her brother Gib (Lisa) DeShazo; her nephews, James Sherrill (Meghan Behnke), Russell Sherrill, Christopher DeShazo; her niece Erin DeShazo; her great nephew Will Sherrill and her great niece Kate Sherrill.
She leaves behind many friends, co-workers and relatives and a community to remember her loving smile.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at Old Well Christian Church. A funeral service celebrating Vicki's life will follow and will be officiated by Pastor Roy Parker. Interment will be in the Church cemetery.
