

He was born on March 21, 1920 in Elkhorn, West Virginia to the late Joseph Herndon Clarke and Frances Thomasson Clarke.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Nell Wade, Elizabeth Gilson and Edna Phillips, his brothers Herndon Clarke and William Clarke, Sr., his niece Francis Wade and his nephew Tommy Boardwine.
Mr. Clarke moved to Martinsville, Virginia with his family when he was one year old. He served with the Army 42nd Corp. of Engineers during World War II and retired from DuPont with 30 years of service. He was a member of Calvary Christian Church in Martinsville.
Surviving are his wife and best friend, Ruth Jarrett Clarke, daughters and son-in-laws Judith Clarke Nalevanko and Jim Nalevanko of San Francisco, CA and Betty Clarke Young and David Young of Decatur, GA, grandson Mike Stanford Young and his wife Jennifer Sutcliffe Young of Atlanta, GA and grandson Tyler Young of Athens, GA. Also surviving are his nieces Kim Clarke Diachenko, Carolyn Rodgers Zachwieja, Sandra Rodgers Kelly, Kim Rodgers, Linda Boardwine Robertson and his nephews Fred Burgess, Jimmy Jarrett, Ronnie Jarrett, Bill Phillips, Bob Phillips, Bill Clarke, John Clarke, Joe Clarke and Joe Wade.
The family will have a visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at McKee-Stone Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 3rd. Services will be private. Entombment will be in the Roselawn Mausoleum.
