

Chester R. Lane, 92, of Martinsville, died Sunday, September 11, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Cottontown, Tennessee on August 26, 1919 to the late Owen Lane and Myrtle Mae Cannon Lane. He received his Masters Degree from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green and also served in the Army Air Corp during WW II. Mr. Lane retired from Martinsville City schools after 40 years where he was a teacher and head of the Industrial Arts Department. He was a member of the American Industrial Arts Association, the Virginia Industrial Arts Association, and was past president of both the Virginia Education Association and the Martinsville Education Association. He was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church in Martinsville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Christine West and a brother, Billy H. Lane.
Mr. Lane is survived by his wife, Betty R. Lane of the residence; four daughters, Annette Elizabeth Lane of High Point, NC, Mary Lou Brigman of Richmond, VA,
Sarah Jane Anderson of Kennesaw, GA and Amy Caroline Williams of Mechanicsville, VA; one son, Patrick O. Lane of Virginia Beach; one sister, Betty S. Poorman of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 4:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Ron Mateer and Rev. Sarah Whitmore officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service. Burial will be private.
