

Clara Sue Bedwell Richardson, 85, of Salem and formerly of Martinsville, died Sunday, December 19, 2010, in Salem. She was born in Comers Rock, Virginia (Grayson County) on July 2, 1925, to John Samuel Bedwell and Lettie Sutherland Bedwell. Sue graduated from Elk Creek High School at the age of 15 and from Radford Teacher’s College at the age of 18. While at Radford she was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. She was a teacher in the Martinsville City School System for over 30 years. She also assisted with adult education and was a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a charter member of Kearfott Memorial Baptist Church where she had served as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher and was a member of the WMU. She was married to Donald Wade Richardson who died in July of 2006.
Surviving are two daughters, Katherine Richardson Smith of Roanoke, Paige Richardson Mawdsley of Somerset, VA; two sons, Larry Donald Richardson of Hardy, VA and John W. Richardson of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Jackie Smith, Alex Mawdsley, Jake Richardson, Meg Smith and Claire Mawdsley. Sue is also survived by a truly loving family of caregivers at Richfield Memory Care Enrichment Center.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Kearfott Memorial Baptist Church with the Revs. George Hearn and Bob Thurman officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, Martinsville Chapel.
