Obituary of Clifford Lloyd Minter
Clifford Lloyd Minter, 99, of Martinsville, VA, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at King’s Grant Retirement Community. He was born March 20, 1919, in Martinsville to Posey and Betty Richardson Minter. Mr. Minter proudly served in the U.S. Army for five years during WWII, achieving the rank of First Sergeant. He retired in 1983 from Centel Telephone Company after 37 years of service. After retirement from Centel, he worked for Piedmont Trust Bank for 14 years. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking. Mr. Minter was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Martinsville for 73 years, serving as a Deacon for many years. He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Elsie Hodnett Minter. Also surviving are two children: Michael K. Minter (Emmie), Jackson Hole, Wyoming; and Deborah Minter Landis, Salem, VA; four grandchildren: Heather (Chris) Sumner, Mt. Pleasant, SC; Michael (Perry) Minter, Lake Forest, IL; Will (Hannah) Minter, Denver, Colorado; Laura (Brad) Scott, Salem, VA. He was predeceased by granddaughter, Elizabeth W. Minter. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren. Mr. Minter is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy M. Clark, Botetourt, VA; and Helen M. Wright, Alabama; two brothers, Jackie (Heddie) Minter, Martinsville, and Billy (Jeri) Minter. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the King’s Grant nursing staff and Mountain Valley Hospice in the care of their beloved father. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 23, at 2:00 at First Baptist Church, Starling Avenue, Martinsville. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Dr. Dennis Knight will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at King’s Grant Victory Chapel with Chaplain Paul Johnson officiating.
