Douglas J. Carter

Douglas J. Carter, 82, of 947 Banks Road in Martinsville, died Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville, where he was a resident. He was born in Axton, September 12, 1927 to Gus and Emma Wright Carter. He served in the Navy and was a truck driver for 30 years prior to his retirement.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Fulcher and Madie Tuggle and a brother, Marshall Carter.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine Carter of the Residence; one daughter, Carol Carter of Rocky Mount; one son, Tim Carter of Danville; three step-sons, Michael Pedigo of Lehigh Acres, FL, Gary Pedigo of Martinsville and Ricky Pedigo of Madison, NC; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 16, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Collins-McKee-Stone, Martinsville Chapel with the Rev. Ron Gardner officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Collins-McKee-Stone, Martinsville Chapel and other times at the residence.
