Eldean Vernon Shelton

Eldean Vernon Shelton, 87, of Lafayette Avenue in Martinsville, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. She was born in Patrick County on March 10, 1922 to Felix L. and Minnie Nelson Vernon. She was a graduate of Hardin Reynolds Memorial School in Critz, VA. In 1941, at the age of 19, she was hired in the second group of women hired by DuPont Company in Martinsville where she continued to work until 1946. Following this, she became a homemaker and dedicated her life to her family. In the 1970’s she became active as a sales representative for Stanley Home Products in the local area. She had been a member of Villa Heights Baptist Church since December of 1976.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Shelton in 1967; a sister, Agnes Tucker and three brothers, Dennis, Ralph and Leonard Vernon.

She is survived by a daughter, Connie Boyd and Husband, Ronnie of Bassett, two sons, Michael Jack Shelton and wife, Molly of Collinsville, and Jeffrey Lane Shelton of Atlanta, GA; five grandchildren, Tony Boyd and wife Shari of Forest, Kevin Boyd of Forest, Jill Mason of Axton, Ashley Rivers and husband, Jason of Martinsville, Jessica Rowland and husband, Jamie of Charlotte, NC and thirteen great- Grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby Clark and husband, Kennon , Dorothy Shockley and husband, Guy, all of Stuart.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 26, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, Martinsville Chapel with the Rev. Keith Spangenberg officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.

The family will receive friends Friday from 12:00 to 1:45 P.M. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
