Obituary of Fred Taylor Renick Jr.
Fred Taylor Renick, Jr. died at the age of 76, on April 10, 2018 at Blue Ridge Center after a long period of declining health. He was born August 21, 1941 in San Antonio, Texas to Fred Taylor Renick and his wife, Florence (both deceased) and moved in 1946 to Martinsville, VA where his father was a pediatrician. Fred graduated from Martinsville High School in 1959, attended the University of Virginia, and graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1964. He then attended the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry graduating in 1968. Following this he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, reaching the rank of Captain, and received a purple heart and also a bronze star. He practiced dentistry for over 40 years in Martinsville until he suffered a stroke in 2012. He was a lifelong pet lover and nurtured many cats through the years. During his lifetime he traveled extensively through Europe, Asia, Australia, North America, and all 50 states. Fred is survived by two sisters, Jeannie Renick Davis (husband John) of Asheville, NC and Ginger Renick Griffin (husband Haynes) of Greensboro, NC as well as 2 nieces, Ginny Davis Wilmerding of Hong Kong, and Ann Davis Vaughan of Houston, TX and 3 nephews, Jeff Griffin of Greensboro NC, Jason Griffin of Greensboro, NC and Carter Griffin of Brooklyn , NY and eight great-nieces and great-nephews. The family wants to thank the staff at Blue Ridge Center and Blue Ridge Rehab for his care. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on May 14, 2018 at Roselawn Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations to your favorite charity will be appreciated.
