

Gladys Gilley Cooper, 99, went home to be with the Lord, November 9, 2015. She was born in Ridgeway, May 27, 1916 to the late Joseph Kenner Gilley and Naomi Burgess Gilley. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Carl W. Cooper, sisters, Ada Wolter, Dorothy Bass and Sadie Byrd and brothers, Joe Gilley and Jack Gilley.
Gladys graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1935 and was president of the Ridgeway Alumni Association for many years. She was an accomplished seamstress and made draperies and accessories for many people in the Martinsville-Henry County area. She was co-owner of Cooper-Vernon Interiors, worked for Harlowe Interiors and Carol Deaton Interiors as well as sewing in her home until her late 80’s. She also enjoyed making clothes of high quality, painting, crocheting and reading. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Patrick County.
She is survived by her daughter, Deirdre Cooper Stone and her husband Ricky, a sister, Frances Fishel and special sister-in-law, Frances Cooper.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Noon at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor John Franklin will be officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
