Helen Harmon Dandridge, 93, of Martinsville, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 24, 2023 at Kings Grant where she was a resident. She was born in Henry County on June 28, 1929 to William Johnson Harmon and Nettie Mae Shively Harmon. On September 20, 1952, she married Harry Neal Dandridge. Together, they raised their loving daughter, Jeanine.
Helen was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend. She was a true southern lady, whose love for Jesus Christ was apparent in her loving kindness towards everyone she knew. She never met a stranger and selflessly strived to make everyone she met feel loved. She had a beautiful smile full of warmth and a wonderful sense of humor. Helen loved to laugh. She loved music and dancing. Helen was always up for a new adventure, especially to the mountains. She had a sweet, youthful spirit and an undeniable sparkle about her. She will be forever loved and greatly missed.
Helen was preceded in death by her father, William, mother, Nettie, husband, Harry, sister Inez H. Buffington, and brothers, Michael, Kyle, and Junior Harmon. Helen is survived by her daughter, Jeanine D. Draper, son-in-law, Gerard H. Draper, granddaughter, Jessica C. Witt and her husband, James Witt, grandson, Joshua L. Draper and his wife, Brooke Draper, great-granddaughter, Ella Grey Draper, sister-in-law, Ruth Dandridge, Aunt Opal Strader, and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Tuesday, February 28, 2022 at King Grant Victory Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm. A private interment will be held at Roselawn Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Roanoke, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or the Fellowship Fund at Kings Grant.
