Ms.  Joann to know you was to love you, the last time I got to see you was a day you weren't feeling your best but you tried your hardest to perk up for me.  Even though we only knew each other  for a short period of time I felt as if I knew you forever. We had so many awesome times when I would come see you for your visits, and I will cherish that forever. To Chelsea, Rhonda, Chris, Ron, and the rest of the family I pray that God gives you strength and peace through this most difficult time.

I was incredibly lucky to have JoAnn as an aunt. She always somehow made me laugh. Her and my dad have the same sense of humor. One of my favorite memories is when my family and I went back to Virginia a few years ago. 

One evening we went to dinner with JoAnn and Gail at Ippy’s in Rocky Mount. My dad and both aunts had us all laughing so hard. I was fighting leukemia at the time and have found that laughter truly is the best medicine. I am thankful for that day and will always hold this memory close to my heart. 

I have so many wonderful memories of this sweet lady, I can’t begin to list them all. She was a blessing to my family. She was more than a mother in law to me. She was a true friend, a councilor to me during tough times, always a comfort and shoulder to lean on. In the 30+ years that I had the pleasure to know her, we never had a argument that I can recall. She had the kindest heart, so very giving. She helped us raise our children, making sure they had everything needed to make them happy. She financed many wonderful vacations for us. Once in Tennessee,  the “time share” people had us backed in a corner and we were about to sign the papers, when out of nowhere she swooped in and said “we’re not interested “ grabbed us up, and we left.  Just an example of how she shielded us from abatement. I will miss you JoNan. I will always love you! I will always remember the great times we had together, and as this land grows darker. I know the heavens are brighter. Until we meet again, Rest In Peace my sweet friend ❤️❤️❤️


It’s funny how we remember certain things from our childhood but I remember JoAnn teaching me how to tie a bow.  Why that memory stands out, I don’t know, but it is one that I always think of when thinking about her.
Another thing I will always remember is the fun we would have picking at her about certain things and the faces she would make when someone said something she thought was crazy.    Those faces came straight from granny Hundley.  But the memory that I will cherish the most is knowing that JoAnn loved the Lord.  There is no doubt that she was received into His loving arms and for that I will forever be thankful.  It’s not goodbye, it’s until I see you again.

“Farewell, dear mother. Somewhere in my heart beneath all my grief and pain, is a smile I still wear at the sound of your dear name. The precious word is "mother", she was my world you see, but now my heart is breaking cause she's no longer here with me. God chose her for His angel to watch me from above, to guide me and advise me and know that I'm still loved. The day she had to leave me when her life on earth was through, God had better plans for her, for this, I surely knew. When I think of her kind heart and all those loving years, my memories surround me and I can't hold back the tears. She truly was my best friend, someone I could confide in, she always had a tender touch and a warm and gentle grin. I want to thank you Mother for teaching me so well, and though the time has come that I must bid you this farewell. I'll remember all you've taught me and make you proud you'll see. Thank you my Dear Mother for all the love you've showed me. Although you've left this earth and now you've taken flight, I know that you are here with me each morning, noon and night.”

I couldn't possibly choose one happy memory to write about, because almost every happy memory I have involved Nan. She taught me so many things. When I was young, she taught me my colors. I learned how to tie my shoes from her. As I grew older, she helped teach me to drive, and as I became an adult, she became an inspiring example of how to live in a world that wasn't always fair.

Over the last several years, we became each other's confidant. She was there for me when I needed to talk about some big emotions, and I tried my best to be there for her. I felt she understood me like no one else, and I tried my best to help her. I learned things about her that she had kept hidden. I realized how truly strong she was, and how strong she had always had to be.  Even at the end, the fight she showed is something that I'll never forget.

I still haven't truly accepted that she's gone. I've felt mostly numbness over the last couple weeks, but I know when this finally hits, I'll feel more alone than ever. I'll never love someone in the same way I loved her, but I'll share who she was with anyone who will listen. There will never be another woman like her. I love you Nan, and I'd give anything to talk to you one more time. But I know with you, it could never be enough. So rest easy. You deserve it more than anyone ever has.

I will always have special memories in my heart going to Jo-Ann's house nearly every other weekend in my childhood to see her and play games with Chris and Chelsea. From sliding down the hill in her backyard till it was dark, to playing video games well into the night, I will always cherish these wonderful memories. When I grew older, I would visit when I could and would bring a cup of coffee to her and    just sit and chat in the living room or outside on the back patio and share what was going on in life. Jo-Ann was more than just my aunt. She was a massive part of my childhood and a loving, caring friend. I love her so much and will miss her dearly.


Jo-Ann was a great person who always made friends wherever she went.  She always loved my sons as if they were her own. I know with her faith that she was welcomed into Heaven. I loved Jo-Ann and I am really going to miss her.

Jo-Ann my heart is so heavy and the pain is unbearable. You are my best friend and the best Sister ever. You have always been there for me. You were a second mother to Mikey and Blake when they were growing up. You have always had the most loving heart and so generous. You would give anybody the last dime that you had if they needed it and no doubt that's exactly what you did many times. I feel so lost right now and the world seems a lot dimmer without you in it. I'm gonna miss our Sunday visits and our daily conversations. I'm gonna miss your beautiful smile which is so evident in all these pictures. Rest easy girl and know that I will always love you forever and one day.

Jo-Ann. Ever since I can remember you have been a huge part of my life. Like a third parent you were there for everything in my life. There are no words that can be said to express my love for you. From sleepovers at your house to waking up in the middle of the night to go fix a phone line somewhere in the community I remember them all and will always cherish them.  I never wanted to leave your house because of the great love you shared every time I came over.  My girls and I will always have you in our hearts. To my “sister” and her family I love you all and pray for peace in your hearts with the knowledge of what a great mother and grandmother “Nan” you had. She was a special lady!  And to my mom, I know you have lost a great friend and sister but know she is in a special place with Granny and Papa smiling down with love and joy! 

I will always remember Aunt Joann as a very sweet, kind, and loving person. I treasure so many memories of family gatherings when I was younger and she will always be a big part of those memories. Joann was always there for my family when there was a need. To Rhonda and her family, please accept what comfort you can from knowing how much she was loved by all of us in Florida despite the distance. May your memories of her give you comfort.

JoNan, I don’t even know where to start. It still hasn’t hit me that you’re really gone. I’ve caught myself several times this week trying to call you about every little random thing. Especially in reference to the family pictures we have found for your service. You’ve always been one of my go to people, and I honestly don’t know how to go on without you. Never in my life have I hurt this badly. My heart absolutely shattered seeing you today, but you looked beautiful, as you always do. 

I can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done for me. I just wish I would have thanked you more while I still had the chance. 

“If I had only known the last time would be the last time. I would've put off all the things I had to do. I would've stayed a little longer, held on a little tighter. Now what I'd give for one more day with you.”

Rest easy and give Grandma Hundley a big hug for me. I love you, Nan. It’s not goodbye, it’s see you later.

JoAnn was a friend to all and so easy to get to know. We first worked together in operator services and from there we transferred to different departments. JoAnnn had a big heart, I recall when I was needing a formal dress she heard me talking and immediately said I have some, let me bring to you and she did- the most beautiful purple chiffon 2 piece dream of an outfit! She said  enjoy with a big smile and sharing heart. (I borrowed it more than once-haha).  I know you all have memories of her kind heart, you all have been so blessed. My sympathy to all the family.


We met JoAnn four years ago before Chelsea and Jared’s marriage. We knew immediately that she was a wonderful addition to our family.  
We feel blessed that we were able to vacation with her and the rest of the family a couple of times, where we learned what a fun and caring person she was.
She was also a talented painter - and we will always cherish the paintings she gave us.  They are a perfect way for us to remember her every time we walk by them in the house.

I met this sweet lady when planning and coordinating Chelsea and Jared's wedding.  I remember her face just beaming and so full of pride for her granddaughter.  I am so happy that I got to know her for a few days during the wedding.  I am so sorry for your great loss.


I have so many memories of JoAnn, some of our family gatherings and others as a faithful member of Victory Baptist Church. I miss her so much sitting with us. She had a very giving heart. Only she would know how many times she helped people out when they were down on their luck. I will think of her when I make banana pudding, how much she loved it . It will be difficult to go on without her. So I won't say goodbye but so long until we meet again. I am so blessed to say that I am sure I will be with her again.

Mom always included us in her Christmas parties and always made sure we looked the part. We couldn’t have asked for a better mom or best friend throughout life. We love you and will meet you again one day across the rainbow bridge.

Our family was blessed to have JoAnn attend our family gatherings. I very much enjoyed her company. You can never have too many friends and I definitely thought of her as one.

She never met a stranger and always had love to give to anyone. Her endless generousity and kindness will always be at the forefront of my memory. I’ll strive to be more and more like you everyday, nan. Love you forever. 

I remember her kindness, always feeling welcome at her house when going with Chelsea, her love for her dogs, and her paintings. 🥰

“If roses grow in Heaven Lord, please pick a bunch for me. Place them in my grandma’s arms and tell her they’re from me. Tell her that I love and miss her and when she turns to smile, place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for a while. Because remembering her is easy, I do it every day. But there is an ache within my heart that will never go away.”

Sitting here remembering Joanne in her younger days. I remember her being so pretty and so nice to everyone she met. She would get the prettiest tan and I remember that I wish I could tan like her. She loved Rhonda and her grandchildren so much. Later in life she was still a beautiful soul and loved the Lord deeply. She will be missed but is now in heaven. We can all take comfort in that.

I’m so sorry for the loss of JoAnn. She had a beautiful soul and now she’s with Jesus. My prayers to the family and may you rest in the coming days knowing that she’s in heaven. Love to all, Debbie Hundley

 When Marion and I first married, we lived with Jo Ann on  Broad St.  One afternoon, we decided to explore the attic.  Everything went great until time to go back down.  Very quickly we realized Jo Ann could not move...she was frozen.  Not really the time to find out, she was scared of heights.  We finally got her down.  That was only one adventure living with Jo Ann.  We also found out she Hated Snakes.  I asked Marion why he didn't know these things about his sister.  His reply was a shrug and laughing.  Never a dull moment with those two.  Those memories are only a few that I will always cherish.  Always will love you, Jo Ann.

We attended church with Ms Jo Ann a few years ago . She is the sweetest. Always had smile on her face, love in her heart and a kind word to make your day special. Loved her hugs

I remember Rhonda and I driving her batty when we where teenagers!  Bless her heart she still loved me after all these years!  (I hope). She was always so kind and thoughtful.  She always asked about my mom and how she is doing. Always thinking of others. Her love for her family was so evident!  You all made her very proud! 

Jo and I were friends for at least 40 years, We shared many bowling  experiences with so much laughter , she was always there for me if I needed her,  I remember when she took me for a tour of her work  area, I have never seen so many wires in my life,  I said Jo how in the world do you know one wire from another, she just laughed, I remember the times she went to Atlanta for educational  training for her job, and she had to drive herself around Atlanta, I thought " girl you are one more brave lady" ,  of course she laughed again as she would when I would compliment her. I mostly  admire her love and devotion to her family which was  never ending.  I loved Jo so much and I know she was so proud of Rhonda, Chris and Chelsea. When she spoke of her brothers and her sister Gail, you could feel the love she had for them, There are so many memories I will always cherish.


JoAnn was always quietly smiling in the background...Glennis introduced her to me as her oldest sister-in-law many years ago..Glennis loved Jo Ann & Gail very much..we're so very sorry for your loss..hugs & prayers

I had the pleasure of working with Jo-Ann at the telephone company.  Prayers and condolences for her family and friends.  Memories will keep Jo-Ann alive in your heart.

She was like my second mom to me. We went to church together. She was always there for me when i needed someone to talk to. She was there. She made me fill loved at victory Baptist church. She helped me get some clothes for church and she even helped me get my license back. She went out of her way to buy me a study bible where i could learn about Gods word. I was her baby hooey thats the nickname she gave me. I will remember her smile and the love she gave to me. Love u mom going to miss u we will see each other again. Let that smile of yours shine up in heaven.

JoAnne was all in a world & personality of her own. She loved her daughter, & her son in law, Ron,  she couldn’t say enough about how proud she was of Chris & Chelsea. As in church, I watched her grow spiritually & she had a love for her church family. She always gave if she  learned of someone doing without, while she was able, she was beyond faithful.  On a funny side, she said what she thought, & there was no stopping her. She loved her fur babies. JoAnne was someone that kept her word &  she will be missed tremendously. #FOREVERRIPWITHJESUS! 😇

Oh my, I remember all the fun times we had together working as telephone operators long time ago.  Jo-Ann was a quiet soul and I loved to hear her laugh.  She was quite a good bowler, too.   And how she did love her Rhonda.
