He was the son of the late James Sanford Compton and Mary Elizabeth Smith Compton.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Julia McGuire Compton.
Larry was a Bass Master Pro Fisherman and was a United State Air Force Veteran.
Also surviving are his sisters; Linda Compton Hodges, Sheryl Epperly, Doris Faye Overby, and multiple nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his siblings; Lewis Compton, Howard Compton, Marie Compton Hatchett, Carol Compton Martin.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 22nd at 11AM at Roselawn Burial Park, 103 Clearview Dr, Martinsville, VA 24112.
Officiating will be The Reverend Dr. James D. Harmon.
