

Marie Hazelwood Robertson, 88, died Friday, April 18, 2014 at Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville. She had been a resident of Blue Ridge Manor in Martinsville since 2011 after moving there from Spruce Village Apartments where she and her husband made their home for several years.
She was born on May 8, 1925 in Patrick County to John R. and Carrie Hudson Hazelwood. She was the youngest and last surviving member of her family of six siblings. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Marvin L. (Pete) Robertson; brothers, Arthur, Walter and Henry Hazelwood; sisters, Sadie Hazelwood, Helen Smith and Elsie Hagerman.
She is survived by sons Donald L. Robertson (Sylvia) of Bassett and Garland L. Robertson (Patsy) of Martinsville, granddaughters Melody R. Weigel (Travis) of Little Rock, AR, April Robertson of Greensboro, NC and Amy R. Stanley (Brandon) of Radford, VA and one great-grandson Brody Stanley of Radford, VA.
Marie was a member of Kearfott Memorial Baptist Church in Martinsville and a long-time member of the Woodmen of the World fraternity. For most of her life she was a homemaker who loved gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting and artistic endeavors while in her home on Hairston Street where she and her husband raised their two sons. Marie was always close to her roots in Patrick County near the Big A Community and stayed in contact with friends and family members. She was raised by her maternal aunt, Lelia Handy, as her mother died when she was very young. Marie loved to talk about her beloved Aunt Lelia and her many happy times growing up on a farm and all her childhood friends. Marie loved her granddaughters and supported and attended their many activities over the years.
The funeral service will be held Monday, April 21, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville with the Rev. J. D. Harmon officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at McKee-Stone Funeral Home one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday.
