Mildred Pickurel Pickurel Smith

Mildred L. Smith, 78, of Ridgeway, passed away on April 9, 2017 at Blue Ridge Rehab Center with her family surrounding her. Mrs. Smith was born on September 12, 1938 in Martinsville, VA to Sam Pickurel and Lillie Emmerson Pickurel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James “Homie” Smith and her daughter Kimberly Hawks. Mrs. Smith worked alongside her husband, who owned and operated Smith Veneer Company for several years prior to forming the Smith Banding Company. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Jimmy Hughes of Ridgeway; two grandsons and their spouses, Adam and Amber Hughes and Zachary and Christy Hawks; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Gray and her husband, David; three brothers, Lloyd Pickurel and wife, Margie, Buren Pickurel and Sammy Pickurel. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, 109 Broad Street, Martinsville. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the funeral home with her Grandson, Reverend Adam Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Ridgeway.
