Jim, we are so sorry to hear of Nancy's passing...we also apologize for not responding sooner but since we no longer live in Martinsville the local news both good or bad is slow to reach us........
Getting to know you both through Dad was a rewarding experience and we have missed your jovial personality and laugh since we moved.  You two were an 'item' particularly when you walked together around Lake Lanier when he still lived near you--you learned to challenge him with satisfying results and with a lasting friendship most would envy.  Nancy was also a strong person and friend of family too.  Keep those good memories of her close to your heart which keeps her with you for forever (!)

I got to know Mrs Barnett thru my dad , Leon Lackey, who was a good friend of Jim. 
A lovely woman who put up with all their shenanigans .
To Jim, all the Lackey thoughts are with you. We will always remember you both fondly.  

I met Nancy playing bridge at The City Recreation Dept., Collinsville, VA.  She was a pleasure to be around and a wonderful bridge player and friend.  She will be lovingly missed.

Nancy was my older sister and I had great admiration for her. She taught me to read when I was 3-4 years old and that has served me well through the years.  We grew up on a tobacco farm in Teeterville Ontario and received a splendid education in that two room school! Nancy graduated from Simcoe High School. She was a Master Teacher and won many local and provincial awards for her abilities. I thank her former students at WDHS for their remembrances!

Welcoming to us and our family of 4 rascally little boys.

A remarkable woman and an amazing teacher. 
She would open windows in the winter when we were struggling to participate in class to wake us up. You learned to try and sit away from the window. Lol.
She graced us with her wisdom, humour and caring attitude.
A great role model.

Not only was Nancy my grade 12  French teacher at Waterford High School (Waterford, Ontario, Canada)  in the late 60s, she was also a good neighbour and friend to our family, the Hurnackis (Peter, Olga, Luba and Roman).  It was Nancy who introduced our family to the game of croquet.   We had a great time learning how to handle the mallets and the balls.  It sure made the summer months more enjoyable.  As a teacher, Nancy was firm but fair, and didn't put up with any nonsense.  Her expectations were high, and I  remember that I put in more effort  in French that year, as I didn't want to disappoint my neighbour.  My brother, Roman and I, send our deepest condolences to Nancy's family.  May she find eternal peace with our Lord. 

She was my French teacher in Grade 12 & Grade 13 at Waterford District High School in the mid 60’s. I passed her final exam and moved on to graduate. She must of felt sorry for me as I was not a good French student. Probably didn’t want me in her next year class. A great lady! She will be missed. 

I had the pleasure of meeting and working for Nancy (and Jim)  in the mid-80s, when she and her husband opened the Jacobite Inn in Delhi. She was a beautiful and kind lady and a wonderful boss. When I saw her obituary, it brought back many fond memories. RIP Nancy ❤️

Such fond memories of my French teacher throughout high school. She inspired my love of French and continued studies in university.

I am sorry to hear of Nancy’s passing. I owe a lot to her. She introduced me to remarkable women at the University Women’s club. She told me about a job. I applied and taught for 24 years, thanks to her. She was our neighbour and a friend. Nancy made a difference in the lives of her students, friends and colleagues. She will be missed. 

I had Madame Barnett for French throughout my high school years, it was one of my favorite classes, and she was one my favorite teachers. My condolences to family and friends. 

I will always be thankful to Madame Barnett for taking me on my first trip to Europe. She was my French teacher in high school and was brave enough to take several teenage girls to the south of France for a March Break trip. It was the start of my desire to travel and learn. Merci Madame.

My dear Madame Barnett... I have thought of you often the past 30 years or so. Thank you for teaching me French from grades 9-13 and inspiring me to become a high school French teacher too!
