Peggy Ann Thornton Gilbert

Peggy Ann Thornton Gilbert, 82, of Martinsville, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014 at her residence. She was born in Martinsville, December 22, 1931 to Robert Taylor Thornton and Nannie Grace Holt Thornton. She was a 1951 Graduate of Martinsville High School and retired from Martinsville-Henry County Health Department and later from Henry County Parks and Recreation.

Peggy was a member of Starling Avenue Baptist church and was a volunteer for the Red Cross and Hospital Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Monroe Gilbert.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Robert T. (Terry) and Sharon Gilbert of Martinsville; one brother, Robert T. Thornton, Jr. and wife Aliene of Martinsville; three grandsons, Russell Taylor Gilbert, Ashley Elliott Gilbert and Quinton Neal Gilbert; three great-grandchildren, Camryn Paige Gilbert, Summer Marie Gilbert and Hayden Neal Gilbert, nephew, Robert T. (Rob) Thornton, III and wife, Kelly; niece, Martha K. Smith and husband, Jim.

The family will receive friends Monday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville and other times at the residence.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at McKee-Stone Funeral Home with Dr. David Adkins officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
