

Velma Bryant Stone, 98, formally of Horsepasture passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2016 at Runk and Pratt Skilled Nursing Facility. She was born on October 2, 1917 at home in the Hailey’s Fishpond Community, Sanville, Henry County to John Henry and Fannie Jean Ingram Bryant.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl M. Stone; son, Roger L. Stone; sisters, Laura Edna Bryant, Ora B. Martin and Ollie B. Easter; brothers, James Ellis Bryant, and Ernest Washington Bryant; step-mother Mary Stone; half-sisters, Myrtle Irene Bryant, Dorothy B. Porter, Hazel Virginia Bryant, Clara Belle Bryant, Betty Lou Bryant and an infant; half-brothers, John Morris Bryant, Jesse Floyd Bryant, Reggie Levi Bryant, and Grover Anderson Bryant.
Mrs. Stone was a charter member of the Stone Memorial Christian Church and she also attended Horsepasture Christian Church. She was a nurse at Shackelford Hospital and a private duty nurse inside and out of the hospital. She and her husband operated Stone Funeral Home and Ambulance Service for 40 years.
Mrs. Stone’s son, Roger was diagnosed with Duchayne Muscular Dystrophy by Dr. Newman of Danville in the early 1950’s at which time she devoted her life to caring for him as he went from walking, to wheelchair, to bed confined and later being put on a respirator.
She is survived by her son, Ronald M. Stone and his wife Anne; grandchildren,
Ronald M. Stone, Jr. and his wife Tara, Michelle Stone-Agee and her husband Patrick; great grandchildren, Benjamin Stone Agee and James Patrick Agee.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Stone Memorial Christian Church with Ministers Lawrence Harris, Tim Wood and Doug Ramsey officiating. Interment will follow at Horsepasture Christian Church. The family will receive friends at the Church one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Joe Frazier, Ron Stone, Jr., Patrick Agee, Ronald Stone, Andy Dunford, Gary Hill, and Beecher Beam.
