

Virginia Puckett Hodnett, 101, of Martinsville, passed away Friday, June 12, 2015 at her residence. She was born in Spencer (Penn Store Community), August 20, 1913 to Kelsey Puckett and Una Dandridge Puckett. She was a graduate of Farmville Teacher’s College (now Longwood University) and taught school in the Martinsville City School System. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the church Altar Guild. She was also a member of the DAR, the UDC, and the Garden Study Club. She was an avid gardener and loved her cats. Virginia and her late husband of 65 years, James Fontaine Hodnett, enjoyed extensive world travel.
Surviving are one daughter, Carolyn Wyatt and husband, Charles K. Wyatt of Richmond; one son, James F. Hodnett, Jr. (Jim) and wife, Ann K. Hodnett of Richmond; four grandchildren, William Hodnett and wife, Keli, Elizabeth H. Pollard and husband, Speaker, David F. Wyatt and wife, Rebecca, Virginia W. Slack and husband, Patrick and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Monday, June 15, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Keith Ritchie officiating with interment to follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
