

Winford Eugene Nichols, 81, of Crestwood Road in Collinsville, died Friday, September 28, 2012 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Franklin County, July 16, 1931 to Robert Aldine Nichols and Lucy Holt Nichols. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Saipan from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean War. He retired from Stone Container Company.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Nichols.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Betty Ruth Kidd Nichols of the residence; two sons, Michael Eugene Nichols of Fieldale and Clark Edwin Nichols and wife Shanon of Collinsville; three sisters, Gertrude N. Young of Callaway, Nadine N. Sloan of Boones Mill and Shirley N. Mohler of Rocky Mount; four brothers, Robert Sherman Nichols of Copper Hill, James Alton Nichols of Martinsville, Clyde Hylton Nichols of Bent Mountain and Danny Lee Nichols of Bent Mountain; two grandchildren, Joseph Clark Nichols and Penny Nichols Wood; two great-grandchildren, Anna Grace Nichols and Emily Gail Wood.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Roselawn Burial Park with Pastor Tim Nichols officiating.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville and other times at the residence.
