It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Lucille Ketchum announces her passing on Friday, September 24, 2022 in Mason, Michigan at the age of 92. She is reunited with her beloved husband of 65 years Herbert Ketchum, who passed on the same day ten years ago.
Betty was born in Lansing on February 17, 1930 to parents Salina Vercruysse née DeMunck and Victor Vercruysse, who emigrated from Belgium. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Linda (Lewis) Smith, Ellen (Raymond) Cox, brother Victor Vercruysse, grandchildren Darsy (Bill) Handziak, David (Christa Robinson) Dunsmore, Natalie (John) Price, Travis (Kate Trajan) Cox, Garrett (Sandra Peña-Diaz) Cox, Chelsea (Sean Burak) Cox, ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by siblings Barbara Bozung, Marion Kern, and Elsie McCook.
Betty had a great love of animals, especially her dog Lily, and throughout her life she farmed animals, trained dogs and competed with horses. She loved spending time outdoors, including hunting and golfing. Most recently she was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in her hometown of Mason and she spent several years as a “Winter Texan” near Harlingen, Texas. Betty was a skilled quilter and tailor, and she enjoyed fishing and dancing into her final days.
Betty will be greatly missed by her friends and family, and a memorial will be held in her honor at the Mason Holt Eagles (1111 North Cedar Street in Mason, Michigan) on Friday, September 30th at 7 PM. Donations in her name can be made to the Mason Holt Eagles #3734.
