MASON
Carl R. Gauss, age 79 passed away December 27, 2014. He was born on May 7, 1935 in Stockbridge, MI to Howard and Jean (Glynn) Gauss. Carl graduated from Stockbridge High School in 1953 and shortly after married his best friend and love of his life, Mary Anne (Singer), in October 1953. The two lived together in the Mason area until Mary’s death in 2006. They were long time members of SS. Cornelius and Cyprian Catholic Church.
Carl served in the United States Army in Germany 1959-1960 as a missile warhead specialist. Shortly after his honorable discharge he went to work at Wyeth Laboratories in Mason, initially in shipping/receiving and finally in maintenance. He retired from Wyeth in 1996.
Carl enjoyed mostly home-based hobbies; gardening, lawn-care, woodworking, reading and eating ice cream. He strived to make and keep a beautiful home.
Although he is now dancing again with his wonderful bride, he will be greatly missed by his 3 children, Carol (Brian) Whipple; Donna Fillingham (John Eccleton); and Steven (Alida) Gauss; 8 grandchildren, David (Vianey) Whipple; Colin (Allison) Whipple; Megan and Conor Whipple; Naomi and Zachary Fillingham; Daniel Hancock and Joshua Gauss; one brother, Glen (Kathy) Gauss; and one great grandson, Nolan B. Whipple.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife Mary; his parents Howard and Jean (Glynn) Gauss; one brother, Paul Gauss; and one grandson, Nolan S. Whipple.
The Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday January 3, 2015 at SS. Cornelius and Cyprian Catholic Church, 1320 Catholic Church Road, Leslie, Michigan with the Rev. Michael Petroski officiating. The family will receive friends at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Ball Dunn Chapel, 621 S. Jefferson St., Mason MI., Friday, January 2, 2015, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM, with a scripture service at 7:00 PM. There will be a one hour visitation prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in North Stockbridge Cemetery, Stockbridge, Michigan.
