
George Martin Kushmaul, 78, passed away on March 7, 2026. He was born on February 27, 1948, and was a lifelong resident of Mason, Michigan.
George married Betty (Kile) Kushmaul on July 7, 1973, and together they shared 52 wonderful years of marriage. He graduated from Clare High School in 1966 and soon after joined the United States Air Force, where he served as a Security Police Officer. George was an active member of the American Legion and worked for General Motors for 32 years.
George enjoyed playing softball, deer hunting, gardening, and spending time with his family and grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.
He is survived by his siblings: Virginia Comstock of Kentwood, MI; Sam Kushmaul of Mt. Pleasant, MI; Rodger (Kim) Kushmaul of Beaverton, MI; Sally (Mark) Humphrey of Clare, MI; John (Kim) Kushmaul of Clare, MI; Donald (Karen) Kushmaul of Coleman, MI; Alvin Kushmaul of Clare, MI; and Sue Kushmaul of Clare, MI.
George is also survived by his son, Jason (Tracy) Kushmaul of Hastings, MI; and his daughters, Sarah (Paul) Slagter of Jackson, MI, and Angel Kushmaul of Mason, MI.
He is also survived by many grandchildren and step-grandchildren: Caleb (Angelica Smetana) Kushmaul of Jackson, MI; Holden Dean of Jackson, MI; Michael and Danielle Stonehouse; and Elliot and Emmet Slagter of Jackson, MI. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Cooper, Connor, and Carleigh, as well as his great-great-grandson, baby Robert Shepard.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Alvaretta and Samuel Eugene Kushmaul; his maternal grandparents, George P. Burton and Winefred Burton; his brother-in-law, Jerry Comstock; and his sister-in-law, Connie Kushmaul.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Elara Caring Hospice Care of East Lansing, MI, as well as to all friends and neighbors for their support.
