Age 93, died December 2, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born October 1, 1920 to Albert and Clara (Isenor) Simpson in Dearborn, Michigan. Lawrence graduated in 1940 from Dansville High School and served as a Sgt. In the US Army Signal Corp. in WW II as a radar repairman in New Guinea and surrounding islands. Upon returning from the war, he resumed working at Mickelson Baker Lumber Co. He then started his own construction company, building over 70 homes, the Dairy Hill, Dart National Bank Drive-In and renovations to many commercial buildings in the Mason Area. He also operated a dairy farm on Meridian Road. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Geraldine; sisters, Ethel Bruce and Marie Crandall. He is survived by his wife, Iva Eleanor; sons Eric (Kathy) Simpson of Holt, Alan (Nancy) Simpson of Perry; daughters, Carol (Michael) Simon of Ann Arbor, Marcia (Preston) Smith of Ypsilanti; step-grandson, Benjamin (Jamie) Simon; step-granddaughters, Ann and Clair Simon of Linwood, MI and many nieces and nephews. The Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 12:00 P.M. at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 621 S. Jefferson, Mason, MI with the Rev. Fred Graham officiating. Interment will follow at Leek Cemetery. The visitation will be on Saturday 1 hour prior to the service.
