Mason, Michigan
Lloyd Dana Morris, age 82, passed away on December 9, 2013 with his family by his side. Lloyd was a quiet, caring man who lived in the wonderful community of Mason his entire life. He was an attorney in Mason for many years and was known for his integrity and attention to detail. He served as City Attorney for Mason in the 1960’s and then as Township Attorney for Vevay Township. Lloyd graduated from Michigan State University in 1952 with a degree in accounting. He served as a 1st Lt. in the US Army with a tour in Korea in 1952-54. When he returned home, he took advantage of the GI Bill to get his law degree from the University of Michigan in 1957. He and his sister, Marilyn, were the first brother and sister to graduate from the U of M Law School. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rita; his parents Mabel and Leslie Dana Morris, all of Mason; and sister, Eloise Terberg of Long Beach, CA. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (Gary) Howe of Mason, son, Steve Collar of Eaton Rapids; three sisters, Marilyn (Eugene) Wanger of Lansing, Linda Veresh of Saginaw, Shirley (Joseph) Paris of Lansing, and nieces/nephews from California, Michigan, New York and Wisconsin. Lloyd was involved in several business ventures throughout his years in Mason and was one of the principals in building the Mason Bowling Center. Lloyd was a member of Mason Masonic Lodge #70. He enjoyed bowling, golf, and watching his Wolverines in good times and bad! He especially liked following the Detroit Tigers and enjoyed attending their games in Lakeland, FL and Detroit! Lloyd really loved cats and rescued several of them from the Capital Area Humane Society--his kitty, Missy, has been a very special companion and source of comfort for many years. The family would like to say a “special thank you” and acknowledge two special friends who stood by Lloyd through the good times in his life and the very difficult last years as he battled with Parkinson’s disease—Marv Miller, a truer friend could not be found—what a blessing you were to him; and Shelley Lyon, a constant, caring presence in his life each week! We would also like to acknowledge Bonnie Stalnaker for the wonderful care she provided for several years which allowed him to live in his own home. The caregivers who assisted with his needs in this difficult year were exceptional and helped him in so many ways. We appreciate all of you dear friends. The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Mason, 201 East Ash, Mason, with Pastor Dwayne Bagley officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the Church and one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday. The Masonic Memorial Service will be on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Church. Lloyd was dedicated to his church and his Christian faith. He appreciated the kindness and caring outreach from his church family. Contributions in his memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Mason or the Michigan Parkinson Foundation, Suite 150, 30400 Telegraph Road, Bingham Farms, MI 48025. The world has lost a very special man!
