Mary Ann Watts, age 84, of Mason, Michigan, died peacefully on February 28, 2011, surrounded by her family. She was born to Bertha and Cyril DeRoo on December 12, 1926, in Detroit, Michigan. On February 8, 1947, Mary Ann married Robert Watts in Clawson, Michigan, and they recently celebrated 64 years of marriage.
Mary Ann was a faithful member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church for 45 years, a charter docent at the Michigan Historical Museum, a volunteer for more than 20 years with Sparrow Health Systems Auxiliary sewing baby blankets for the nursery, a Pink Lady at Mason General Hospital, and was active in Cub Scout and Girl Scout activities.
Mary Ann enjoyed playing bridge, golf, and tennis. She had a great love of reading and liked being outdoors. She was proud of her Belgian heritage, and she and her husband made several trips to Europe.
Mary Ann was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband, Bob, and their children Sharon (Tom) King, Barb (Randy) Mastin, and Jim (Carolyn) Watts. She was the proud grandmother of Mike (Mindy) King, Sarah (Jay) Shelton, Kellie (Jeremy) Doerr, Beth Mastin, Laura Mastin, Katie Watts, and Amanda Watts and the especially proud great-grandmother of Daniel and Hannah King, Andrew and Ryan Shelton, Logan and Ethan Doerr, and Emerson Watts. Her love for life will live on in her grandchildren and great-children.
Her family would like to thank Terri Mitchell and the staff at the Stoneleigh Residence for the care they gave to Mary Ann and the support they gave to her family.
A memorial service will take place at St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, 546 W. South Street, Mason, on Friday, March 4, 2011, at noon. The family will receive friends Friday before the memorial service at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes Mason Chapel, 621 S. Jefferson Street, Mason, from 9:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Mary Ann’s memory be made to St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, 546 W. South Street, Mason, MI 48854 or Sparrow Health System Hospice Services, P. O. Box 30480, Lansing, MI 48909. The family was served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes Mason Chapel.
