Age 40, of Mason, MI, died peacefully on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Hospice House of Mid MI surrounded by family and friends, reaching the end of a 5 year battle with breast cancer. Melissa was born July 22, 1970 in Lansing, MI to Robert and Karen (Ellis) Jakeway, Jr. She worked for the City of Lansing and had many friends. Melissa loved to work outside in her flowers and garden, could tackle any craft project and was a wonderful cook.
Surviving are her husband, Michael Wassner; daughter, Ashley Wassner and son, Bryan Staufer; 4 step-sons, Pat, Nick, Matt and Jake Wassner; sisters, Betsy Roath of Greer, South Carolina, and Wendy (Rick) Wilson of Ionia, MI; 5 nieces and nephews; grandmother, Cleo Rann of Daytona Beach, Fl; and aunts & uncles.
A Memorial Service will be held 12:00 PM Friday, September 10 at Eden United Brethren Church, 1938 Eden Road, Mason, MI 48854 with a lunch reception following. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
