Ruth was born on November 10, 1935, in Manistee, Michigan, to Daniel and Lydia Hornkohl. She graduated from Manistee High School and later married the love of her life, Ronald John Hanson, on October 5, 1957, spending 57 years together. Together they built a life centered on family, raising their six children in Leslie, Michigan, where Ruth devoted herself wholeheartedly as a homemaker.
Ruth found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved shopping, spending time with friends, and most of all, being surrounded by her family. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she cherished every moment with them. Known for her gentle spirit and kind heart, Ruth made it her life’s purpose to care for and support those she loved. She also took great pride in caring for others as a caregiver, a role that left a lasting impact—so much so that she continued to be lovingly known as “Nanny” to a special few throughout her life.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Christopher Hanson (Maria), Jeffrey Hanson (Marlise), Christine (Daughter-in-Law), Steven Hanson, Kevin Hanson (Laura), and Ronna Hanson (Jeremy); her grandchildren Serena, Brandy, Olivia, Emily, Travis, Alyssa, Hunter, Tucker, Carter, Wyatt, Portia, and Gage; and her great-grandchildren Riley, Sharon, and Genevieve. She is also survived by her brothers, Ernest and Robert, and many nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald John Hanson; her son, Eric Warren Hanson; her parents, Daniel and Lydia Hornkohl; and her brother, William.
Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home will be caring for her arrangements. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no public funeral service, and a private memorial will be held by the family.
