Velma L. Hitchcock Fisher

Mason, formerly of Jackson, MI

Velma L. Fisher, loving wife and mother, age 90, died December 21, 2012. She was born March 16, 1922 in Genesee, New York to Glenn and Blanche E. (McGowan) Hitchcock. Velma was a member of the Mason Senior Citizens Welcome Club, attended Aurelius Baptist Church in Mason, and was a former member of the Ganson Street Baptist Church of Jackson. She attended Bible school in Grand Rapids, worked in Bethel Children’s Home in KY and was in charge of the nursery. Through the years, Velma provided childcare services in her home.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Leroy; granddaughter, Shelby Lynne Fisher; parents; brother, Lyman; sister, Nina; and son-in-law, Alan. Surviving are her 2 daughters, Elaine Haymaker, Chicago, IL, and Irene C. (Ron) Vogelpohl of Wheaton, IL; son, Roy (Cheryl) Fisher of Mason, MI; 8 grandchildren, Andrew, Kaitlyn (Josh), Melina, Amanda (Daniel), Elyse, Mallory, Jessica, and Benjamin; 3 sisters, Norma Foster of St. Augustine, FL, Helen Christenson of Grand Ledge, MI, and Mabel Hess of Lakewood, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM Friday, December 28, 2012 at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Ball-Dunn Chapel, 621 S. Jefferson, Mason, MI with Pastor Stephen C. Aikin officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Jackson, MI

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 5-8 PM and Friday from 9-10:00 AM.
