Virginia Satenig Foy entered the church triumphant on Saturday, March 23, 2024, in Lansing, Michigan. She was 84. Born August 25, 1939 in Manhattan, New York, to Dorothy and George Ampagoomian. She lived much of her life in Yonkers, New York, and attended public schools there.
Virginia married young, had two daughters and was widowed early. After working for a medical practice she became interested in nursing and attended Bronx Community College where she earned her associates degree in nursing in 1966. Afterward she worked at Jacobi Hospital in Bronx, New York, where she specialized in cardiac care, but went on to hold various supervisory and directorial roles at several New York hospitals. She continued her education throughout her career, earning a bachelor’s degree from Iona College in New Rochelle, New York, and a master’s degree from Pace University in Pleasantville, New York. Towards the end of her career, she returned to front-line nursing as a discharge planner and visiting nurse professional.
In 1971, she met Francis X. (Frank) Foy and they married in December of that year, making Yonkers their home until her retirement in 2001. After retiring, Ginny and Frank moved to their vacation home in Pocono Pines, Pennsylvania, where she enjoyed spending time with longtime friends, traveling, volunteering at a local church and at the library, and becoming a member of Questers, an organization dedicated to learning about and preserving U.S. history and artifacts.
In 2015, Ginny and Frank moved to Mason, Michigan, to be closer to her daughters, and again participating in church activities and their community. Ginny was an avid reader and a participated in book clubs wherever she lived. In recent years she participated in a U.S. Constitution studies class through Hillsdale College. In spring 2023, Ginny moved from Mason to Independence Village in East Lansing.
Virginia is survived by her sister Florence (Steve) Ditko, brother George (Barbara) Ampagoomian Jr., daughters Elizabeth (Michael) Franzago and Suzanne (Bruce) Caltrider; granddaughters Sonia Franzago, Sophia (Michael) Updyke, Zoe Caltrider, Kaitlyn Caltrider, and Chloe Caltrider, and great grandson Coen Updyke, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by husband Frank, her parents George and Dorothy Ampagoomian, brother Gregory, sister Alvera, and granddaughter Sarah.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 1, from 2 to 5 pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 621 South Jefferson Street, Mason. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, April 2 at 11 am at First Presbyterian Church of Mason, 131 East Maple Street.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Mason, or Samaritan’s Purse.
