Holt, MI
Wayne Harrison Mansfield, age 77, died December 26, 2010. He was born July 8, 1933 in Adrian, MI to Clifford and Frances (Potts) Mansfield. Wayne’s smile, quick wit and sense of humor will be missed by his family and many friends; he had the ability to leave a lasting impression on everyone he met. Wayne retired from Montgomery Wards as the appliance repair man who could fix anything and he
was always ready to help family and friends with their repairs. Wayne’s retirement job was a bus driver for Dean Transportation, where he enjoyed driving the children to school everyday and he loved each and every one of them. Wayne loved Harness Horse Racing and for many years owned race horses.
Wayne honorably served during the Korean War in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Holt-Mason Fraternal Order of Eagles, but his home away from home was the American Legion Post #238, where he was past commander. Wayne was known for his fish fries and was always up for a card game. He loved bowling, and golf but his life’s passion was fishing and hunting which took on special meaning when his grandchildren could join him.
He was preceded in death by son-in-law, Paul Cole; and significant other, Helen Litwiller. Surviving are his daughter, Kathy Cole; son, Cliff Mansfield; 5 grandchildren, Heather (Jeff) Crandall, Mike and Dean Mansfield, Paul (Lindsay) Cole; Andrew Cole; and a sister, Rita (Chuck) Blair of Florida and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Helen Litwiller’s children, Sharon, Connie, and Gale for their kindness and love to Wayne.
Memorial services will be held at the American Legion Post #238, 1785 Cedar St, Holt, MI on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 1:00 p.m., and Visitation starting at noon.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Legion Post #238 in memory of Wayne.
