Basil S. Segro

BASIL S. SEGRO, age 86. Beloved husband of Carolyn (nee Polanka); dearest father of Natalie Grady (Michael), Brian (Janet), Barry & Bradley (Kathy); loving grandfather of Christopher Grady (Becky), Melissa Thomas (C.J.), Tanner & Morgan Segro; great-grandfather of Tristin & Phoenix Thomas, Sarah Grady; uncle of Marc & Dina Polanka; brother of Johnny (Carol); uncle of Shirley Wojciak & Scott Segro. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in memory of Basil be made to your local park system. There will be a private cremation with a celebration of life to be scheduled at a later time, when he will be laid to rest with his beloved wife at Whitehaven Memorial Park. Basil Sebastian Segro was born in Cleveland Ohio. He grew up in the Historic Little Italy neighborhood on Murray Hill. Basil was a graduate of Cathedral Latin High School & studied engineering at Case Western Reserve & John Carroll Universities. Basil had an extensive engineering career working at length at Parker Hannifin Gas Turbine Fuel Systems as well as owning his own design business before retiring. He held many patents & designed & tested many jet engine components for helicopter & aircraft engine & control systems. Outside of work he was often creating and building things, including working on apartment buildings to building a summer cottage on a lake. Basil was a family man & loved to spend time outdoors with his kids & wife Carolyn. He enjoyed the water, particularly fishing, sailing, scuba & windsurfing. When he was on land among other things he also enjoyed golf & in his later years pickleball & riding his Mantis scooter. Basil loved nature and spending time traveling, hiking & visiting parks across the nation. He enjoyed OSU football & the unfortunate Browns. He eventually settled on becoming a snowbird & partly residing on the Gulf Coast of Florida to escape the Cleveland winters. His positive energy & cheery outlook on life to enjoy the day will be missed by all those who he touched along the way on his life's journey.
