Uncle Jack, I will remember you with fond memories. New Jersey at lenny's Penny arcade and making spaghetti with you. You always treated me so nice and made me laugh. You were my confirmation sponsor and was so proud. You were and are loved... I know that you are correcting my grammer right about now probably right over my shoulder. You will be missed. Mr. Gale did an awesome job as my 9th and 10th grade English teacher.  Whether is was Shakespeare, vocabulary, grammar or writing, he would do it in a clear, organized and thoughtful way.  He continued to be a mentor to me even after he was no longer my teacher.  Definitely one of the best teachers Gilmour has ever had.

My condolences go out to Mr. Gale's entire family.  He was a great teacher, and I too had the pleasure of learning Latin from him many years ago. First he was my teacher when I was a student at John Carroll taking an evening class in Creative Writing.  Soon after he was my colleague at Gilmour.  And always, he will be my cherished friend, whose dedication to family and Gilmour was inspiring.

As a member of the class of '65, I can attest that John Gale successfully taught Latin to unruly 15 year old boys.  We all remember his ritual on the last day of class when he marched us through the halls of the class building and down to the athletic field, Latin notebooks in hand, as we sang Gaudeamus Igitur and tossed our notebooks in a bonfire.  We did not comprehend then that he had planted a Latin seed in us that would sprout only when we were wiser:    Gaudeamus Igitur…Vita nostra brevis est.  (While we're young, let us rejoice…Our life is brief.)  Thank you Mr. Gale for teaching us much more than just Latin.

On behalf of the Staff at Heather Hill, we all send our deepest condolences to the family. You are all very caring people, and we are/were blessed to care for your family.

I will always remember my teacher and friend.  One great Man.  I also remember his caring as a father to his family at home and Gilmour. God be with you all.

My Grandfather was a great great man he touch a lot of people as teacher, friend, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Here is something my grandfather told every time he saw me he told me it is very important to finish your education now looking back on these words for the last couple of days I realized he never stoped teaching in his life because he was still a teacher in his heart.

I was a student of Mr. Gale's at Gilmour Academy. He was one of my favorite teachers and I looked forward to being in his class, not so much for the subject matter, but for who he was and for what he taught---way beyond the text book. Even though it has been decades since I've had contact with Mr. Gale, the news of his passing evokes great sadness. Clearly he made a life-long impression on me. The students at Gilmour Academy were blessed to have John Gale as a teacher.

I truly enjoyed being one of Mr. Gale's students at Gilmour.  He was so kind, thoughtful, and intelligent.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.

To the Gale family,

I first met John Gale when I was a freshman at Gilmour in 1949. He was my teacher, my friend and my mentor. He exhibited to all that knew him how to live the good life. He also taught my wife Milly at John Carroll and my son Joe while he was at Gilmour. Please except my heartfelt sympathy to everyone in his family.

John Gale was my English teacher back when I was in HS. English wasn't my best subject and he knew that. He always took the time to help me out and always had the patients for â€œone moreâ€ question when I didn't understand a concept. He was a great teacher and since I got to know his kids he was a great father and ultimately a great person. He will be missed.

Mr. Gale was one of the teachers during my time at GA that really made an impact.  He not only cared about what he taught, but the students he taught.
He made the effort to individualize his craft to each student.  To Tom, my classmate, you are in my thoughts as is your entire family.
